SWU・TUJ・BST　3校合同シンポジウム！データサイエンスについての討論

Hello readers! I am Kiwa Tomonari, belonging to Imai seminar! On June 26, 2023,  I participated in a joint symposium among SWU, Temple University, Japan, and British School in Tokyo. The theme was digital technology and its impact on improving learning experience. I was one of the student panelists and we gave presentations on the topics of metaverse, ChatGDP, digital divides, online learning, and the difference of data utilization between the public and private sectors

皆さんこんにちは！今井ゼミの友成希和です！6月２３日に開催された、昭和女子大学、テンプル大学日本校、ブリティッシュスクールトーキョーによる3校合同シンポジウムに、学生パネリストとして登壇しました。テーマはデジタル技術が学びに与えるインパクトについてで、私たちは、メタバース、チャットGDP、デジタル格差、オンライン学習、公的と私的のデータ利用のテーマでプレゼンテーションを行いました。

I gave a presentation on metaverse and education, including how to incorporate the metaverse into education and what challenges there were. I learned a lot not only from the moment of presentation but also from the preparation process. It was never easy to prepare for complex topics like the metaverse in English. However, I could survive by fully utilizing my past collaborative experiences of presentation and discussion with students of foreign universities.

私は、メタバースと教育についてプレゼンテーションを行いました。メタバースを教育に組み込むためには、どのような方法があるのか、どのような課題があるのかについて発表しました。プレゼンテーションを発表するだけでは無く、その準備から多くのことを学びました。メタバースという難しいトピックに対して、英語で議論を行い、準備を進めることは決して簡単ではありません。これまで行ってきたプレゼンテーションや海外の学生との議論の経験を最大限に活かせる機会となりました。

During the discussion, student panelists expressed their opinions in response to questions from the audience. For students whose native language is not English, this part was the most difficult one because we could not prepare a script in advance. Still, it turned out to be a very meaningful discussion, with each student expressing their opinion in their own words. The discussion among the students of SWU, SWU high school, TUJ, and BST was filled with opinions from a variety of viewpoints, and was full of discoveries for both the student panelists and the audience.

プレゼンテーションの後には、討論が行われます。討論では、観客の方から寄せられた質問に対して学生が意見を述べます。第一言語が英語でない学生にとって、台本が用意できないこのパートは、最も難しい場面でした。しかし、一人ひとりが自分の言葉で意見を述べることで、とても意味のある討論となりました。SWUとSWU高校の学生、TUJとBSTの学生で行われる議論は、様々な視点があり、学生パネリストにとっても観客の方にとっても、発見の多い討論になったと思います。

The symposium was an excellent opportunity to learn to communication with others in English. Not only that, I was inspired by the other students who worked so hard to discuss things in a language that was not their native language. If it were not for my fellow panelists, I would not have been able to express my opinions so openly. I realized that even if I was not confident in my English or unsure of my opinions, it was still worthwhile to speak up. I could feel my own personal growth.

今回のシンポジウムは、英語の使い方やコミュニケーションの取り方を学ぶ良い機会となりました。それだけではなく、自分の第一言語でない言葉で懸命に議論する他の学生の姿に感銘を受けました。他の学生パネリストの方がいなければ、私は自分の意見を堂々と言えなかったと思います。英語に自信がなくとも、確信できる意見が無くとも、発言をすることに意味があると気が付き、成長を感じました。

This growth has consisted of past learning experience including the collaborative presentation course with the University of Colorado students in May 2023. This trilateral symposium was a great opportunity to involve my leadership and the confidence I have gained from my previous experiences.

この成長は、これまでの授業でのプレゼンテーションや、5月に行われたコロラド大学ボールダー校の学生とのプレゼンテーションで得た経験から得たものです。これまでの経験で得たリーダーシップや自信を引き出せたシンポジウムでした。

I will soon attending another joint program with the students of Business Academy Aarhus, Denmark, in August and I hope to utilize the skills I gained through this experience to my advantage!

8月からは、デンマークのオーフス・ビジネス単科大学の学生とのプログラムがあるので、今回の経験を活かしたいと思います！
