Letters from Boston８：ホエールウォッチング / Whale watching

Dear Readers,

Hello! I’m your Boston reporter, Kiwa Tomonari. By the way, have you ever seen a whale? I went whale watching the other day. I am going to share my memories with you! 

こんにちは！ボストン記者の友成希和です。突然ですが、皆さんはクジラを見たことがありますか？先日、Whale watchingに行ってきたので、その思い出をシェアします！

In Boston’s ocean, you can see some whales, so it is famous as a sightseeing spot. When I went to the sea, I saw a beautiful sea view with a cloudless sky and sparkling ocean. I could realize how broad the world is by the beautiful view.

ボストンの海では、多くのクジラを目にすることができるため、観光スポットとして有名になっています。海に出ると、雲一つない青空と、きらきらと輝く海を見ることができました。美しい光景から、世界の広さを実感します。

After one hour of sailing, we could see whales. The whales’ sounds boomed out and they showed their big bodies. A ship turned around every time a whale showed up, so every passenger was able to see them. We stayed at the spot where whales were for one hour. 約１時間経つと、クジラたちがいるスポットにたどり着きます。クジラの鳴き声が海全体に響き渡り、大きな体を見せてくれます。クジラが見えると、船がぐるっと回ってくれるので、どこにいてもクジラを見ることができました。約一時間クジラたちがいるスポットに滞在します。

And then, we said goodbye to the whale and it took one hour to go to the harbor. We saw a fabulous sunset, and the sky’s color changed from blue to orange. I will never forget the view. そして、クジラたちとお別れをしてまた１時間かけて港に帰ります。帰るころには、夕日が海に沈み、真っ青だった空が暖かいオレンジ色に変わります。海風に吹かれながら見る夕日の美しさを一生忘れることはないでしょう。

In Boston’s summer, the sun goes down around 9 pm, so if you want to see the sunset, you have to choose whale watching which starts after 5pm. In addition, you may feel chilly on a ship even if the day’s temperature is high, so you might want to bring something to slip on.

夏のボストンでは、夜の９時頃に日が落ちます。そのため、サンセットを見たいという方は、５時以降から始まるWhale watchingを選ぶと良いです。また、気温が高くても海の上は風が強く、肌寒いのでパーカーなどを持っていくことをお勧めします。
